Q: When Should GPS Antenna Be Plugged On ORS ?
A: The GPS antenna can be used to synchronize the eNB / gNB cells running on your ORS to GPS time. Here are the situations in which this is useful:
- If ORS has neighbour cells configured (when it is in handover mode), they should all be synchronized between each other. GPS can be used to synchronize them, or you can alternatively use PTP to synchronize them through ethernet (please note that PTP support might require a hardware upgrade on older ORS models)
- Certain countries might require your cells to be synchronized to GPS time in TDD to lessen interferences
- Synchronizing your cell on GPS might improve the 4G / 5G signal quality, as this clock is more precise
If you are running a single eNB / gNB and do not have neighbour cells GPS is not mandatory
