Q: Why Does Smartphone Disconnect From 5G After Two Minutes ?

A: If your Smartphone disconnects from 5G after two minutes, it is likely due to your smartphone voluntarily disconnecting from the network due to a failure to setup VoNR. This is the case for example on many Android phones starting from Android 12.

You can read more about this here: https://docs.srsran.com/projects/project/en/latest/tutorials/source/cotsUE/source/index.html#ue-disconnects-after-a-few-minutes

To solve this, you need to either make VoNR work or disable the VoNR requirement on your smartphone:

Making VoNR work

  • Make sure you have an IMS properly connected to your core network
    • If you are using Amarisoft Core Network deployed with Rapid.Space NMS ( panel.rapid.space ) then it should be activated by default, as long as your Amarisoft and Simpleran version is recent enough, please go to your connection parameters to check IMS is enabled
  • Make sure the SIM Cards are configured properly in the UE database
    • IMPI parameter is especially important, for test SIM Cards with Amarisoft Core Network the following works: 00101XXXXXXXXXX@ims.mnc001.mcc001.3gppnetwork.org, if you are using the RapidSpace panel it should be correctly configure by default, please contact us if needed
  • Make sure your smartphone is not blocking the test PLMN: if you are using the test PLMN (00101), it is likely your smartphone will block VoNR by default on this PLMN. If this is the case, check with your phone manufacturer if there are special codes you can dial to deactivate this limitation

Disabling VoNR requirement

Please contact your phone manufacturer and ask if there are special codes you can dial to deactivate this. You can also try the codes described in this page: https://docs.srsran.com/projects/project/en/latest/tutorials/source/cotsUE/source/index.html#ue-disconnects-after-a-few-minutes
