Agenda

  1. Prerequisites
  2. Add an Instance Node
  3. Configure an Allocation Supply
  4. Verification

In SlapOS, there are two types of nodes on which software can be deployed:

  • A SlapOS Compute Node allows the deployment of an instance of a Software Product that has been allocated on the Node through an Allocation Supply: such an instance is called an Instance Tree.
  • An Instance Node is a virtual node that is linked to an Instance Tree and allows the allocation of shared software instances for that Instance Tree, also through an Allocation Supply.

This tutorial will teach you how to add an Instance Node to an Instance Tree, on which Allocation Supplies can then be configured to allow the allocation of shared instances.

Prerequisites

For this tutorial, you will of course need a SlapOS Instance Tree already deployed in your Project.

Make sure that the Software Type of the shared instances you wish to request is already added to the corresponding Software Product.
To determine the correct Software Type, refer to the files of the software release.

Add an Instance Node

Log in to the Rapid.Space Panel, then navigate to your Instance Tree. You can do that from the Services home page, or from your Project.

Once on the page of your Instance Tree, click on Add Instance Node in the Actions menu on the left of the page.

This will open an empty dialog where you will only need to confirm the action by clicking on the Add Instance Node button.

Configure an Allocation Supply

You should now be redirected to the new Instance Node's page, with a green notification confirming the operation's success appearing at the bottom right.

NOTE: As only one Instance Node can be added per Instance Tree, performing the action a second time will simply take you to the page of the already existing Instance Node, and inform you that it is already created, like in the example screenshot above.

Now, you can configure an Allocation Supply by clicking on Add Allocation Supply in the Actions menu on the left. If needed, this tutorial explains the details of the procedure: HowTo Add an Allocation Supply on the SlapOS Panel.
Even though the document is for a Compute Node Allocation Supply, the principle remains the same and the steps can be applied identically here.

Verification

Once the Allocation Supply is configured and validated, everything should be ready and shared instances should be allocable on the Instance Node.

To test this, simply request a shared instance of the correct Software Product and check that it is indeed allocated.
This can be done by viewing the shared instance's Allocation Report and checking that the Instance Node appears in the Allocable Nodes list.
