Agenda

  1. Prerequisites
  2. Request a new Software Instance
  3. Verification

Once a Software Product has been configurated and supplied to your SlapOS Compute Node via an Allocation Supply, you can request that an instance of that software be deployed on it.

This tutorial will teach you how to complete such a request, and check the correct instantiation of the software on the SlapOS Compute Node.

The example used here is that of a Fluentd software instance supplied to a Rapid.Space KVM.

Prerequisites

  • Have the corresponding Software Product correctly configured
  • Have a registered SlapOS Compute Node in your project on which the Software Product has been installed through an Allocation Supply

In the desired Rapid.Space project, you will need to have the corresponding Software Product with the desired software release and software types configured, as well as a registered SlapOS Compute Node on which the software has been supplied and installed via an Allocation Supply.

Enter the Request page on the Rapid.Space Panel

Log in to the Rapid.Space Panel.
From the homepage, click on the Request link in the side to go to the Request page and start the request.

Select the Project for the Request

Next, choose the project in which you have configured the Software Product and registered the SlapOS Node, and continue.

Select the Software Release to deploy

If you have correctly configured the corresponding Software Product and Allocation Supply, the desired Software Release should appear in this next list.

Select it and continue.

Configure your software instance

You can now configure your instance through several parameters:

  • The Title of the instance, which will be the name with which it appears in your instance list.
  • The Type of the instance, which is one of the Software Types defined in the corresponding Software Product. Most of the time, this will be set to Default.
To know all of the available Software Types, please refer to the software.cfg.json file for the software in Nexedi's SlapOS repository.
  • The Parameter form will be unique to each software type and contains all of the instance's configurable parameters.
  • Finally, the Computer parameter allows you to select one of your project's available Compute Nodes, on which the software will be instantiated.
This field is optional and can be left blank, in which case SlapOS will automatically choose an available Compute Node with a suitable Allocation Supply within the Project.

Once everything is configured to your liking, click on Request to finalize the request.

Verification

You will be redirected to the new instance's page, which will have the Start Requested state, as well as a red Monitoring Status. You will have to wait for some time before it is ready.

When it is ready, the Monitoring Status will turn green and the instance's Connection Parameters will be displayed in the corresponding section, if there are any for that particular software.
